The Volkswagen ID.4 was a major factor in 11.5 percent of the German automaker's total deliveries to the US in the previous year. The small crossover has seen significant improvements for 2024 in order to sustain its sales momentum, with a focus on giving the 82-kWh battery pack priority over the conventional 62-kWh pack. The Volkswagen ID.4's solid 2023 sales record lays a solid platform for its ongoing success.

According to EVs InsideEVs Global, with a larger 82 kWh battery pack option and more power, the 2024 Volkswagen ID.4 delivers an even more alluring package,

While this announcement was initially made in September, Volkswagen has now officially attached a price tag to these upgrades. Furthermore, it is set to qualify for the $7,500 federal tax credit once SK On components become accessible.

In the case of the 2024 ID.4, the manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) begins at $39,735 for the 62 kWh models and rises to $44,875 for the 82 kWh versions, not including the $1,425 in destination fees.

Notably, these price points reflect a slight increase compared to previous offerings. It's worth noting that once these models are equipped with battery-maker SK On's components, they will become eligible for the $7,500 federal tax credit, although Volkswagen has refrained from specifying a release date for this configuration.

More Features

In the 2024 lineup, EVs InsideEVs Global has reported that Volkswagen will offer the standard, S, and S Plus trim levels. However, the standout enhancement is undeniably the introduction of the new 82-kilowatt-hour battery option, which was initially revealed last year. Vehicles equipped with this larger battery will also have the new APP 550 drive system. Thus, delivering 282 horsepower for the rear-wheel-drive version and 330 hp for the all-wheel-drive model.

The lowest versions will be equipped with the smaller 62-kWh battery pack, which EPA guidelines indicate has an estimated range of about 206 miles. Conversely, the ID.4 Pro and Pro S models with the enhanced 82-kWh battery capacity are anticipated to attain an astounding range of 291 miles. The EPA-estimated range rating for the AWD Pro and AWD Pro S is anticipated to be significantly lower, at 263 miles.

The 2024 Pro models feature a 12.9-inch infotainment screen. It is another significant boost. Volkswagen has made it clear that this screen's menu navigation and graphical user interface have been updated. Additionally, the S Plus models now have updated 21-inch machined alloy wheels, while the ID.4 AWD Pro variants come with larger 20-inch aluminum-alloy wheels.

The ID.4 S versions with the 82 kWh battery will now have ventilated front-row seats as standard interior amenities. The S Plus models, on the other hand, will have the premium Harman Kardon sound system with nine speakers, a subwoofer, and an amplifier.

As per Autoevolution, Volkswagen explicitly names the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6 as its top rivals for its small electric SUV in the news statement, highlighting the fact that both cars use the 800-volt E-GMP vehicle architecture as opposed to the 400-volt Volkswagen MEB platform.
