Three electronic vehicles were included in the list of Top Safety Pick+ Awards. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety determined the top 13 cars included in the list.

Safest Electronic Vehicles (EV)

This year "Top SafetY Pick +" included three electronic vehicles. These vehicles on the list are 2023 Genesis Electrified GV70, 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 6, and 2023 Lexus RZ.

First is Genesis Electrified GV70. According to Motor Biscuit, the 2023 Genesis Electrified GV70 is a luxury all-electric midsize SUV from South Korea, and it has received its second consecutive Top Safety Pick+ award, highlighting its strong safety credentials.

The 2023 Electrified GV70 performed exceptionally well in various safety tests, earning "good" ratings in all crash categories, including small overlap front for both driver and passenger sides, moderate overlap front, and the updated side test. It also received the highest rating for its headlights and achieved "advanced" scores for both daytime and nighttime vehicle-to-pedestrian crash prevention. Additionally, it was recognized for the ease of use of its LATCH system, receiving a top rating in this aspect as well.

Car and Driver described Genesis Electrified GV70 as comes with a generous set of standard features, including a digital gauge display, leather upholstery, 20-inch wheels, a panoramic sunroof, and a wireless smartphone charging pad, providing a well-equipped package right from the start.

Another electric vehicle included in the is 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 6. The Hyundai Ioniq 6, a close relative of the Electrified GV70, is an all-electric midsize sedan from the Hyundai Motor Group. In 2023, it achieved the Top Safety Pick+ designation. The Ioniq 6 EV received "good" ratings in all crashworthiness categories, excelling in small overlap front driver-side tests.

Its structure and safety cage were deemed "acceptable," while small overlap front passenger-side tests earned "good" ratings. The Ioniq 6 also performed well in updated side tests, except for "acceptable" ratings in driver torso injury measures. It received a "superior" rating for pedestrian crash prevention systems, "acceptable" ratings for headlights, and ease of use for LATCH system anchors.

Last electronic vehicle included in the list is 2023 Lexus RZ.

The RZ did well in crash tests, getting a "good" overall rating, but there were some concerns about driver restraints and dummy movement. During one test, the dummy's head moved to the left because the seat belt allowed too much forward movement. The SUV had an "acceptable" rating for right leg/foot driver injury measures but scored highest in other crash categories.

The RZ's pedestrian crash prevention systems were excellent, earning a "superior" rating for both day and night. Its headlights were rated as "acceptable." When it comes to child seat anchors, the RZ did quite well with a "good+" rating. It even has extra hardware for the LATCH system, which can be used for all three second-row seats, though not all at once.

About IIHS Top Safety Pick +Award

As stated in IHHS HLDI, this year vehicles aiming for the highest safety rating of "TOP SAFETY PICK+" must meet strict criteria. They need to excel in various crash tests, including driver-side and passenger-side small overlap fronts, original moderate overlap front, and updated side tests. Additionally, they must have acceptable or good headlights as a standard feature and offer a front crash prevention system with advanced or superior ratings in both daytime and nighttime vehicle-to-pedestrian evaluations.

In contrast, for the lower-tier "TOP SAFETY PICK" award, vehicles have slightly more relaxed requirements. They only need an acceptable rating in the updated side test and must demonstrate advanced or superior performance in the daytime pedestrian test to qualify for this designation.
