Norton is making a serious push into the middleweight motorcycle market with the introduction of the all-new Atlas and Atlas GT.
Bringing two bikes means that the British manufacturer is continuing its comeback under TVS ownership.
Built on a completely new platform, the Atlas lineup is designed to compete with some of the most popular motorcycles in the segment. Rivals include the Yamaha Tracer 7, Triumph Tiger Sport 660, KTM's middleweight adventure offerings, and Honda's growing range of touring motorcycles.
New 585cc Parallel-Twin Engine Powers the Atlas Range
According to Visor Down, both motorcycles have a newly developed 585cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine. Norton has equipped the engine with a 270-degree crankshaft to deliver a more engaging character and improved torque delivery.
The company claims the engine produces 69 horsepower at 9,300 rpm and 57.5 Nm of torque at 7,500 rpm. Those figures place the Atlas and Atlas GT directly in the heart of the competitive middleweight category.
What's more, the performance targets riders looking for a balance between everyday usability and spirited riding.
Whether you're commuting, touring, or exploring back roads, the new engine is designed to handle a variety of riding conditions.
Advanced Electronics and Rider Aids Come Standard
Modern motorcycles are expected to offer more than raw performance, and Norton has responded with a comprehensive electronics package.
A Bosch six-axis inertial measurement unit powers several advanced rider-assistance systems, including:
- Cornering ABS
- Traction control
- Wheelie control
- Slide control
- Cornering cruise control
- Five selectable riding modes
Buyers who choose the premium Apex models receive additional features such as electronic combined braking and hill-hold assistance.
Atlas vs Atlas GT: What's the Difference?
Although both motorcycles share the same engine and chassis platform, they target different types of riders.
The standard Atlas is aimed at adventure-focused riders. It features a 19-inch front wheel, increased suspension travel, and higher ground clearance. These upgrades make it more capable on rough roads and light off-road terrain.
The Atlas GT focuses on road touring. It uses a 17-inch front wheel and road-oriented suspension settings that prioritize sharper handling and long-distance comfort on paved surfaces.
This gives buyers the flexibility to choose a motorcycle that better matches their riding style.
Premium Chassis and Lightweight Design
Both models are built around a steel trellis frame that uses the engine as a stressed member. Norton has also fitted fully adjustable KYB suspension and dual 310mm front brake discs with radial-mounted calipers.
Weight remains competitive within the segment. The Atlas weighs 188 kilograms wet without fuel, while the Atlas Apex comes in at 192 kilograms. This helps keep the motorcycles agile without sacrificing stability.
TFT Display, Connectivity, and Modern Features
Technology is one of the strongest selling points of the new Atlas lineup.
Every model includes an eight-inch TFT touchscreen display with:
- Built-in navigation
- Bluetooth connectivity
- Smartphone integration through the Norton Rider app
- Over-the-air software updates
- Ride-tracking functionality
These features bring the Atlas range in line with many premium motorcycles currently on the market.
