Ferrari Launches the Luce: First EV Designed Alongside Jony Ive With Futuristic Features

By

The first fully electric vehicle of Italian automotive company Ferrari is finally here as the company has debuted the "Luce" in Rome in its full glory and design.

The Ferrari Luce looks different from the latest Ferraris in the market as it has futuristic features and a smaller form factor compared to the typical supercars of the company as it was co-designed with Jony Ive's firm.

Ferrari Debuts Its First EV in History

Ferrari has unveiled the "new chapter for the Maranello marque" earlier today, the Luce, which still embodies the DNA of the Italian luxury and performance vehicles. The Italian automotive company not only reveals its answer to the growing demands for a clean-energy car, but it also offers one of the most powerful EVs there is.

The Ferrari Luce features four electric engines with existing powertrains, and it offers a "completely new kind of Ferrari" that only an electric architecture can achieve, with electrification being one of the many possible expansions for Ferrari to bring the principle of "technological neutrality."

The company also said that Luce "lights the way towards" the creation of "Ferrari 360°," which is not limited to electrification.

The Ferrari Luce is based on a bespoke platform featuring a five-seater electric hatchback that still lives and breathes the brand, containing the kerb weight at 2,260 kg (4,982 lbs.) and boasts of 1,050 horsepower, a 0-60mph in 2.5 seconds and 0-120mph in 6.8 seconds.

The Luce features one electric engine per wheel, is paired with a 122-kWh battery, and has a range of over 530 km oralmost 330 miles, all of which were developed in-house. Ferrari also said that the Luce gives the driver control of each wheel's motion in every direction.

Jony Ive, Ferrari Worked on the Luce EV

The first electric all-wheel drive vehicle from Ferrari was co-designed with Jony Ive and Marc Newson's design firm, LoveFrom, working fully on the interior of the Ferrari Luce, according to Electrek.

LoveFrom and Ive made the Ferrari Luce's interior simple yet striking, with its front seats featuring a simple but elegant design that has it wrapped in premium leather paired with seat controls.

All of the buttons, knobs, and points of control are said to feature a tactile feel, which is a rarity among futuristic cars that are mostly digital.

Ferrari Luce's steering wheel features a three-spoke design that resembles a classic Ferrari steering wheel, which was machined from 100% recycled aluminum, and brings forth the iconic Manettino, binnacle, and torque-control paddles.

The price tag of the first EV from Ferrari ranges from $640,000 to $647,000, making it the most expensive electric vehicle in the world.
