The 2024 Rolls-Royce Spectre Ultra-Luxury EVs face a recall due to inadequate ground connection. It's the first for this luxury model from Rolls Royce. The epitome of electric vehicles is now grappling with its inaugural recall. Just over 100 Spectre units in the U.S. market are being recalled, primarily due to the potential presence of adhesive residue on the eyelet of the ground connection cable connector. The residue has the potential to cause unwanted electrical resistance, leading to an insufficient ground connection.

Recall Alert: 2024 Rolls-Royce Spectre Ultra-Luxury EVs, Insufficient Ground Connection

The ground connection cable serves as the vital link between the front drive unit and the vehicle's chassis. BMW of North America has alerted the federal regulatory agency about two notable risks. This situation could result to a risk of injury to service technicians in the event of a short circuit. The worst-case scenario involves a thermal event, which is far from ideal in a vehicle equipped with a high-voltage battery.

According to reports, Rolls-Royce reported the discovery of the potential issue during a pre-delivery inspection in December 2023. At that time, a staff member identified the presence of adhesive residue on a connection eyelet of the ground cable.

After learning about this, the supplier started looking into it the next day, and the manufacturer started an engineering investigation right away. Consequently, in the ensuing weeks, the team opted to implement a halt in Spectre vehicle deliveries, effective from January 11th, 2024.

Rolls-Royce points out that the adhesive residue is believed to be located on a ground cable that connects to the front electric motor. This residue has the potential to result in heightened electrical resistance and, in the end, an inadequate ground connection.

According to reports, the LEONI AG in Nuremberg, Germany, the component in question, identified by part number 61 29 5A66D97 in the automaker's parts system, was supplied by them. The vehicles under suspicion were produced at the Goodwood assembly plant in the United Kingdom between October 24, 2023, and December 11, 2023.

On February 1, dealerships across the nation will receive notifications regarding this recall. Owners will receive notifications via first-class mail on March 15. As for the solution, service technicians will carefully examine the eyelet at the end of the cable that connects to the front electric motor to check for any adhesive residue. If deemed necessary, any excess adhesive will be meticulously removed before reattaching the ground cable.
