New software update empowers Rivian drivers to change wheels and recalibrate their vehicles without a service visit.

Rivian's latest update takes a hands-off approach - literally. Now, if you drive an R1T or R1S, you can swap your own wheels and handle the recalibration right from the touchscreen. No more booking a service visit just to change your tires.

The update, quietly announced on Rivian's Stories site, adds a self-service option inside the vehicle's interface. Once you've got the new wheels on-say, trading 21-inch all-seasons for beefier all-terrains, you just follow the prompts. The truck adjusts ride height, traction settings, even the speedometer, all on its own.

"Plus, your vehicle will now notify you as you drive when punctures or slow leaks are detected, helping to improve safety and stay ahead of any flat tires," the company said in its announcement.

This is just the latest example of how Rivian's treating its vehicles like living tech. Over-the-air updates have already brought tweaks to entertainment, handling, and suspension. Now it's tackling something that used to need a wrench and a technician.

For drivers who bounce between city streets and trailheads, it's a solid time-saver. You no longer have to make an appointment just to tell the vehicle what tires you're using. The software's smart enough to handle that now.

Getting started is simple: pop into the Service menu, choose the wheels you've installed, and hit confirm. That's it.

It's a small feature on the surface, but it hints at something bigger. Rivian's betting on owners who like control, who want fewer dealership visits, and who aren't afraid to do things themselves. As more EVs go digital, this kind of flexibility may become the norm, but Rivian's already there.
