In celebration of its 25th anniversary, Audi elevates the 2024 A3 and infuses extra excitement into the S3 for its milestone year. The refreshed S3 sedan showcases evolutionary enhancements, featuring a blend of cosmetic updates, improved powertrain, advanced torque-vectoring technology, and a focus on maintaining versatility while exuding confidence within the Audi family lineup.
Audi has upgraded its plug-in hybrid (PHEV) SUV lineup, notably the Q7 and Q8 models, with increased battery capacity for improved range and efficiency. Featuring an enhanced 25.9 kWh battery pack, these vehicles now offer up to 53 miles of electric-only driving. Additionally, Audi enthusiasts can expect various enhancements for an enhanced driving experience.
In 2021, Audi declared its intention to discontinue the sale of internal combustion engine (ICE) models after 2033. CEO Gernot Döllner further confirmed in 2023 that the production of the last gas-powered vehicle is slated for 2026. Audi is set to introduce over 20 new or revised electric models by 2025, with the debut of the Q6 e-tron among the planned releases. The company aims to achieve parity in revenue generated from electric vehicles and ICE models by the end of the decade. Audi's progressive approach stands in contrast to other automakers such as Mercedes-Benz, who intend to persist in the production of ICE vehicles.
In a bid to simplify its vehicle lineup, Audi is phasing out the complex two-digit nomenclature introduced in 2017. This move aims to enhance clarity for customers and adapt to the rising popularity of electric cars. The current naming structure has led to confusion among buyers, prompting the automaker to rethink its approach.
Audi has taken a significant step into Formula One (F1) by acquiring the Sauber team, marking its commitment to the sport. The move solidifies Audi's position as the primary team for the Swiss-based outfit starting in 2026. Andreas Seidl will lead the new Audi team, with Oliver Hoffmann overseeing the development of its new power unit.
Since its debut, the Q2 has captivated drivers with its traditional interior layout, ergonomic design, and spaciousness, embodying the timeless appeal that Audi is renowned for. Despite its aging signs in certain aspects, such as the firm ride and optional extras for desirable features, the Q2 continues to impress with its robust safety features and exceptional build quality. Excitingly, mid-2024 will witness a significant upgrade for the Audi Q2.
Audi appoints Massimo Frascella as the new design chief, succeeding Marc Lichte after his decade-long tenure. Frascella, renowned for his work at Land Rover, will shape Audi's future electric vehicle lineup with a focus on timeless design. Meanwhile, Audi commits to producing conventional vehicles until 2032 amidst an industry-wide shift towards electric mobility.
In a recent victory at the European Court of Justice (ECJ), German automaker Audi secures exclusive rights to its iconic four-ring badge, prevailing over Polish car parts trader GQ. Audi can now prohibit the use of similar signs on replacement components, as the court affirmed. This decision followed a dispute where GQ questioned the emblem's usage and Audi's authority. The ECJ ruled that Audi's trademark rights were valid, citing the logo's marketing function.
