About Mazda
As stated on its website, Japan first heard "Mazda" in October 1931. Mazda began making cork in 1920. Mazda, then known as Toyo Kogyo Co., Ltd., introduced the tricycle truck "Mazda-go" in 1931. Jujiro Matsuda, Toyo Kogyo's second president and founder, and others considered the tricycle's name.
Crafted under the management of a man named Matsuda, the name "Mazda-go" seems quite fitting. However, the intriguing question arises: why did it adopt the spelling "Mazda" instead of "Matsuda"? The name "Mazda" comes from Ahura Mazda, the West Asian divinity of harmony, knowledge, and wisdom.
Toyo Kogyo leaders envisioned "Mazda" as a symbol of Eastern and Western cultures and automobile culture. To promote global peace and the auto industry, Toyo Kogyo formed Mazda Motor Corporation."Mazda" also honored the founder, whose surname was similar.
