Polestar Unveils Affordable Polestar 3 electric SUV, Comes with Rear Wheel Drive

Polestar plans to introduce a budget-friendly electric SUV before the year concludes. The company, known as PSNY, is preparing to reveal an economical variant of the Polestar 3 to rival Tesla and Porsche. Official sources from Polestar have verified the imminent arrival of a more accessible Polestar 3 model featuring rear-wheel drive and a single electric motor.

Affordable Polestar Coming

Plans are in motion for the carmaker to launch a more affordable substitute in light of the Polestar 3's impending launch in the US. The Polestar 3 will continue to be available only as a five-seater SUV. , According to a report by CarBuzz, Polestar executives have formally announced the impending release of a more affordable version of the Polestar 3 luxury SUV later this year.

Polestar's Global Head of Product Communications, Brent Ellis, stated in a statement to Drive that customers may anticipate the debut of the Polestar 3 single-motor model later this year. When the debut date approaches, more details about this model-which will have rear-wheel drive-will be released.

Polestar 3 product manager Andreas Andreen stated that the 3 RWD will use the same rear-mounted electric motor as the Long Range Dual Motor AWD option, but Ellis did not disclose performance or pricing information.

According to Drive, Polestar is set to reveal a rear-wheel-drive Polestar 3 EV SUV with a single motor before the year concludes. Polestar has verified that an economical entry-level Polestar 3 electric SUV will be introduced to complement the existing lineup by the end of the year.

Additionally, Australian distribution of the company's spacious five-seater electric SUV is scheduled to commence in June 2024, featuring an initial lineup of two variants.

The Polestar 3 will be priced starting at $131,574 for the Long Range Dual Motor model upon its local release, while the enhanced Long Range Dual Motor with Performance Pack variant will start at $143,274. These prices exclude on-road expenses.

Production, Price

Electrek shared that Polestar intends to produce the Polestar 3 on two continents in order to become a global player. This would be a significant advancement for the company. It was anticipated that the Long Range Dual Motor vehicle will go on sale for $83,900 at launch, with an EPA range of up to 300 miles.

However, in a pricing update in March, Polestar reduced the starting price to $73,400, inclusive of the Pilot Pack across all trims. Anticipated deliveries for the standard Long Range Dual Motor variant are scheduled to commence in the second quarter of 2024.

The company announced that the Polestar 3 qualifies for the $7,500 Polestar Clean Vehicle Incentive on lease agreements, potentially reducing prices to as low as $65,900.

The Polestar 3 Long Range Dual Motor model, equipped with the standard Pilot Pack and optional Plus Pack, begins at $78,900. The Plus Pack from Polestar features a 1,610-watt Bowers and Wilkins sound system, 21" wheels, bio-attributed MicroTech materials, and heated rear seats.
