Joby Aviation Done with eVTOl Pre-Production Flight Testing

As reported by Electrek, Urban Air Mobility expert Joby Aviation is experiencing a significant achievement in eVTOL advancement. The company has wrapped up assessments of its pre-production aircraft and is transitioning towards obtaining air certification for the production prototype eVTOL models.

Joby Aviation stands out in the electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) sector, positioning itself as a key player within the evolving realm of advanced air mobility (AAM).

Furthermore, Electrek reported that Joby Aviation accomplished its inaugural manned flight in October 2023, leading to a public demonstration in New York City as part of its progression towards the anticipated launch of comprehensive air taxi services in 2025.

Subsequent to securing substantial funding, including a grant in California, Joby Aviation initiated the establishment of eVTOL production facilities in the United States. The company's ongoing testing with pre-production eVTOL models has reached a successful conclusion, marking the transition to the subsequent phase of development.

The company has successfully completed a thorough four-year eVTOL testing phase using two pre-production prototype aircraft, as revealed in a news release released by Joby Aviation. This rigorous testing program included over 1,500 flights in total, which equates to more than 33,000 miles in the air.

Of these completed flights, more over 100 flights were flown with a human pilot on board, marking an important turning point toward final flight certification and the eventual reality of commercial air taxi services.
