Mercedes-Benz Recall: Faulty Fuses for Almost 32,000 Cars

There is a potential for malfunction due to the incorrectly manufactured fuses, leading to disruptions in contact or increased resistance to activation. According to DaxStreet, this could render systems reliant on the 80A fuse non-functional, affecting functions such as restraint, propulsion, and the instrument cluster. There's also a concern regarding the possibility of an underhood fire. Mercedes-Benz initiated an investigation into this issue in September 2023, prompted by instances of non-starting vehicles within its production facilities rather than on public roads.

As of now, Mercedes-Benz AG has not verified any instances of issues related to this fault through field reports, service records, or warranty claims within the United States market. The supplier addressed the issue in November 2023, implementing the necessary corrections. Mercedes-Benz has identified eight distinct part numbers for the fuse boxes installed in the affected vehicles, none of which correspond to the problematic fuse.

These part numbers, specifically A2545402126, A2065407464, A2235403856, A2235403756, A2235403956, A2975407830, A2975408030, and A2975407930, have been listed without any particular sequence. Although dealers have been apprised of the recall, owners can anticipate receiving official notifications via mail between now and April 16.

The Solution

Based on Autoevolution's report, Mercedes-Benz commenced an investigation into the mentioned condition in September 2023, recognizing instances of non-starting vehicles within its production facilities rather than on public roads. To date, Mercedes-Benz AG has not substantiated any field reports, service records, or warranty claims associated with this fault within the United States market.

Additionally, the supplier rectified the issue in November 2023, introducing appropriate measures to address the situation. For the fuse boxes installed in the impacted cars, Mercedes-Benz has determined eight different part numbers, none of which match the defective fuse. The recall has been sent to dealers, and owners can anticipate receiving mailed warnings between now and April 16.

The solution involves the installation of a properly manufactured 80-amp fuse. Owners have the option to input the 17-character VIN on the automaker's recall website or the NHTSA's recall website to take proactive measures.

The recall affects a significant number of vehicles across the Mercedes-Benz lineup, spanning from the C 300 to the illustrious S 680 under the Maybach brand. These encompass a wide spectrum of engines, from the efficient 2.0-liter turbo I4 to the commanding twin-turbo V12. Notably, the C 63 S E Performance features a distinct four-cylinder turbo, setting it apart from the C 300 in terms of power and performance.
